Position Overview

Reporting to the General Manager, the General Foreman is responsible for supporting the planning, coordination, and execution of field operations throughout the lifecycle of construction projects.

The role oversees the supervision of self-performed and subcontracted work, ensuring that project activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project specifications, schedules, and company standards.

The General Foreman serves as a key link between project leadership and site crews, translating project plans and milestones into clear direction for working foremen and trades while maintaining alignment with project objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

Project Execution

• Coordinate the details required in the development of construction strategies, project execution plans, schedules, and estimates.
• Communicate consistently with subcontractors and staff regarding schedules, construction methods, company policies and procedures, permits, safety/loss prevention, quality control, and performance standards.
• Assist with the review and coordination of the project safety plan.
• Review submissions and revisions of project drawings with subcontractors and other project personnel.
• Assist with the planning and preparation of project execution, inspection, testing, and safe work plans.
• Ensure the project site and company assets remain secure while maintaining a safe and respectful working environment.
• Attend progress and safety meetings with subcontractor representatives and review upcoming work.
• Ensure project closeout activities are completed appropriately, including settlement of financial obligations and demobilization of resources.

Field Leadership & Crew Management

• Accountable for the health, safety, quality, and productivity of crews and foremen reporting to the position.
• Provide leadership and direction to field personnel, setting expectations for performance, safety, and work quality.
• Address performance concerns and behavioural issues in a professional and timely manner.
• Support the development and empowerment of crew members through coaching and mentorship.
• Maintain effective workflow and coordination between trades to ensure continuous progress and minimize disruptions to project activities.
• Resolve routine day-to-day interpersonal issues within crews and between trades to maintain a productive work environment.

Planning & Process

• Understand project specifications and general conditions of the contract and confirm that materials and work comply with contract and quality requirements.
• Advise the General Manager and project personnel with respect to changes to methods, materials, schedules, and procedures.

Financial Accountability

• Assist in reviewing progress reports, cost reports, schedules, and forecasts to completion.
• Assist in managing project budgets by controlling expenses, administering owner and subcontractor billings, and identifying work outside subcontractor scopes.
• Conduct business in line with client guidelines.

Client Focus

• Support the management of the client experience to ensure positive relationships are established and maintained.

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ)

• Take personal responsibility for your own health and safety and that of workers, visitors, the community, and the environment.
• Assist, conduct, and coach workers in Field Level Risk Assessments (FLRAs) and Behaviour Based Safety (BBS) practices.
• Comply with client requirements, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Hold direct reports accountable for HSE performance and ensure responsibilities are executed properly.
• Ensure contractors and subcontractors meet HSE management system requirements.
• Communicate and execute the Project Site Quality Plan (PSQP) and monitor subcontractor quality performance.

Qualifications

Education

• Journeyman Trade Certification or related designation preferred

Experience & Technical Competency

• 3+ years of construction experience
• Knowledge of construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, safety regulations, and engineering principles
• Ability to read drawings and specifications
• Experience coordinating subcontractors and trades
• Knowledge of contract risk management
• Basic understanding of Human Resources and Labour Relations practices
• Proficient with Microsoft Office
• Experience using scheduling and project management software
• Commitment to quality, safety, continuous learning, and professional growth
• Experience working with First Nations communities or Indigenous-led projects is considered an asset
• Valid driver’s licence

Working Conditions

• Majority of work is completed on construction job sites, both outdoors and in office trailers or existing structures.
• Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn as required by company safety policies.
• Travel or relocation to other geographic work locations may be required.
• Must meet project site access requirements, including compliance with company and client drug and alcohol policies where applicable.
• Ability to obtain and maintain required safety certifications and site-specific training in accordance with company policy, client requirements, and applicable regulations.

Pay: $45.00-$53.00 per hour
